Southern California Sulcata Rescue is a nonprofit animal rescue and rehoming service specializing in African spurred tortoises, commonly known as sulcata tortoises. We also offer rescue and rehoming services for other land tortoise and land turtle species. Our nonprofit rescue service is run entirely by a dedicated team of volunteers who deeply care about the quality of life for each of the precious living creatures we take in. As true animal lovers, seeing our rescued tortoises flourishing in their new forever homes gives us a tremendous sense of joy.

Our mission is to find suitable new forever homes for these gentle giants. Sulcata tortoises are the third-largest land species tortoise in the world and great care is required to ensure they are provided a happy life. Unfortunately, due to their large size, many loving pet owners simply do not have the space required to provide an optimal environment for these shelled animals as they grow. When kept within a properly designed habitat; however, sulcata tortoises can be extremely loving and enjoyable pets that often outlive their owners.

In addition to providing sulcata rescues and rehoming services, we also make rescued sulcata tortoises available for adoption to properly vetted new forever homes. If you are interested in adding a sulcata tortoise of your own family, we encourage you to submit a Sulcata Adoption Request. If you would like to learn more about the requirements to properly care for sulcata tortoises, we highly recommend reviewing the information provided on our Sulcata Care Sheet.
